The pets on these pages all lived at Lewis
Clark Animal Shelter while they regained their confidence, body condition,
health and manners. Look at them now!!
We will always be thankful for the community
and people who support our work. When it seemed that no one cared what
became of these precious pets you helped us. .
THANK YOU !
Mallory (19 months old) and her pet
Sadie

Look closely and you will see Mallory
holding tightly to Sadie for her first brave trek down the stairs in a
vertical position. Sadie stood patiently by while Mallory
navigated down the stairs. The following is a letter we received
with these pictures from Sadie's adopted family.
Dear Lewis Clark
Animal Shelter, December 27, 2006
Our family is
so thankful for our most recent addition to our home…..Sadie. She is
such a sweetheart!! She is wonderful with all three of our children,
most importantly the youngest….Mallory who is only 19 months old.
Mallory can pull on Sadie’s ears and tail…lay all over her…pull out
handfuls of fur as she tries to figure out who or what this furry
thing is in her home….and Sadie is so patient with her. She loves
all over Mallory and has never shown one single act of aggression
towards the baby, our other kids or any other creature for that
matter. She is truly a lover!! Well, recently Mallory decided in her
own mind she was big enough to attempt going down the stairs like
Mommy & Daddy do. I walked out of my bedroom the other day to see
Mallory trying to come downstairs and alerted my wife, Shannon. We
both walked out in the hallway to tell her to sit down and we would
come up and get her. Instantly Sadie sprang up from her bed and
rushed to Mallory’s side. She had Mallory against the wall on one
side, and let the baby get a death grip on her fur from the other
side…and Sadie stayed right with Mallory the entire way down the
stairs to make sure she reached the bottom safe and sound!! Shannon
and I were astounded!! We had not taught Sadie to do that….and to
the best of my knowledge….nobody had!!
Sadie is just a
natural born Mommy and such a lover to all of my family. She stays
right by my side when we go outside, on walks, and at the park. I
don’t even need to put her on a leash!! She doesn’t bark or go nuts
when the doorbell rings…she doesn’t maul people when they walk
through the door…she doesn’t try to door dash..she doesn’t dig or
chew…what can I say…she’s the perfect fit for us!! She listens when
spoken to…she is patient and tolerant of all people and other
animals too!! (Yes…even cats!!) We introduced her to our family
with my Mother-In-Law here for the holidays with her two dogs at my
home….and Sadie blended right in no problem!! She just wants to be
loved and is so willing to please her family.
Thanks SO much
to everyone at the LC Animal Shelter for finding us our ideal pet!!
She has already bonded beyond belief with our family and we just
couldn’t imagine our lives without her in it! Sadie has now become
our fourth child! We just love her so much!! Thanks again to the
entire crew at the Lewis/Clark Animal Shelter for helping us find
the missing puzzle piece in our lives…the love of a truly special
pet…our Sadie girl.

Mariah Faulkner
Dr.
Faulkner adopted
Mariah hoping to have a cuddly family cat she calls a 'bed cat'.
I don't know. . hmmmm. . . does this qualify as a 'bed cat'?
Sprawled out on her back, sharing the head of the bed with
Grandpa, purring. . . YEP that's a bed cat!

Ok just
in case you aren't convinced . . . see Mariah on the master bed?
Our other orange kitty never wanted to be on the bed until Mariah
claimed her place there.
When I lost
my dog over the 4th of July in 2003, out of desperation we visited your
facility several times hoping our dog might show up there even though we
were from Clarkston. During t hat time your staff was always courteous
and the shelter well maintained. I also saw a little dog there that
stole my heart and we eventually adopted her. She quickly became an
important part of our family and could not be more loved.
After the
realization we were not going to find our dog, we really thought about
getting a puppy. Then we thought about our busy schedules and trying to
train and housebreak a puppy and decided to go with the young dog we saw
at your shelter. She was 6-9 months old and once we got her home we
realized already house trained. What a bonus! We changed her name from
her kennel name! "Jayson" to "Josie", but she was so smart that she had
that figured out shortly too. She has truly been a gift to us, so
during this holiday season I am forwarding a contribution to your
shelter. Thanks so much for finding Josie and allowing us to be a part
of her life!
Gail and Shawn
Greg and Nance adopted Bear this Spring and have already built memories. Their message is:
Bear is doing very well. He loves our home in the woods and his many toys in the yard. We have taken him camping, swimming and fishing and he enjoys
them all. I have attached photos for you to see.
Bear is very well-mannered and causes few problems, none that we can't work with. Right now the biggest issue is that he loves to chase cats and our resident kitties certainly
don't appreciate it . But we are working on that issue and things are improving.
So, again, thank you for all the good work you people do-we really appreciate it!

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know I'm
doing great! I'm fitting into this family like the champ I am! I have lots
of new chew toys, and I'm getting lots of exercise every day playing fetch
with my new toys.My family can't believe how smart I am. I have already
learned to sit and to stay. I love to play hide 'n' seek with Kathryn
(she's 4). She tells me to sit/stay, and then runs off to hide somewhere in
the house. I sit patiently, until she calls me, and then I run and find
her. It's so fun, we do it over and over! I'm starting obedience classes
next Friday, I'm going to do great! Here are a few pictures of me, enjoying
my new back yard. Thanks so much for taking care of me, during my stay
at Lewis Clark Animal Shelter.
Love, Butter

NOTE FROM SHELTER: Butter
came to our shelter twice. His main discretion was that he wanted to be
with 'his people' and would find ways to get to them. He didn't want to be
left alone hours and hours. Now he has a family that understands his
need for companionship and training. What a wonderful match.
