Summary: 'Abandon' = completely forsake and desert an animal previously in one's custody or possession without making reasonable arrangements for its proper care, sustenance and shelter. 'Animal' = any vertebrate member of the animal kingdom, except man.
'Cruel' or 'cruelty' means: intentional and malicious infliction of pain, physical suffering, injury or death on an animal maliciously killing, maiming, wounding, overdriving, overloading, driving when overloaded, overworking, torturing, tormenting, or depriving of necessary sustenance, drink or shelter cruelly beating, mutilating or cruelly killing an animal subjecting an animal to needless suffering inflicting unnecessary cruelty driving, riding or otherwise using an animal when the animal is unfit abandoning an animal negligently confining an animal in unsanitary conditions negligently housing an animal in inadequate facilities negligently failing to provide sustenance, water or shelter to an animal.

Summary: Prohibits the willful administering of any poisonous substance to an animal, the property of another, or maliciously placing any poisonous substance where it would be found by an animal or where it would attract an animal with intent that the animal ingest, take or absorb it.
Penalty: Maximum three years confinement in state prison, or maximum one year confinement in county jail and a $100 - $5,000 fine.

Summary: Prohibits carrying any animal in or on any vehicle in a cruel manner knowingly and willfully authorizing or permitting any animal to be subjected to cruelty of any kind.

Summary: In this section, 'abandon' = forsake entirely, or neglect or refuse to provide or perform the legal obligations for treatment, care & support of an animal by its owner. Any animal left unclaimed with veterinarian for more than 10 days after written notice will be given to the nearest pound or disposed of.

Third or subsequent within 15 years of first conviction: maximum 12 months confinement and/or $500-$9,000 fine.

Summary: Note: This section applies when the animals are on duty and off duty. Police dogs include bomb detection dogs, narcotic detection dogs, patrol dogs, and tracking dogs. Prohibits willfully, maliciously, and without legal justification personally causing the death, destruction or serious physical injury of any police dog, police horse, search and rescue dog or accelerant detection dog with intent to inflict such injury or death.
Prohibits willfully, maliciously, and without legal justification throwing, hurling or projecting any rock, object or other substance capable of (and likely to) producing injury at a police dog, police horse, or search and rescue dog willfully, maliciously, and without legal justification kicking, striking, beating or tormenting any police dog, police horse or search and rescue dog.
Prohibits willfully, maliciously and without legal justification interfering with or obstructing any police dog, police horse or search and rescue dog while performing its duties by teasing, agitating, or harassing the animal causing another person or animal to willfully, maliciously and without legal justification interfere with or obstruct any police dog, police horse or search and rescue dog while performing its duties by teasing, agitating, or harassing the animal Exception: Peace officers or vets who terminate the life of a police dog, police horse or search and rescue dog to relieve the animal of undue pain or suffering.
